**With a repair ONLY** GAL chip for Spectrum 128/+2 (\"Unrainer\")
For purchase with a repair ONLY**

Tired of the "ULA Rain" effect on your Spectrum Toastrack or +2? Black or coloured lines over the screen on Russian demos? Fantasy World Dizzy speckly at the top and crashing randomly in 128K mode? You need an unrainer GAL!

The original HAL chip in the Toastrack and the +2 has a bug in it, which this chip will fix. This bug causes some games and demos to not display properly, and may even crash if the game (such as Fantasy World Dizzy) is run in 128K mode.

There are two possible replacements: the Velesoft one:
1) http://velesoft.speccy.cz/zx/umbrella/umbrella.htm which contends banks 1, 3, 5 and 7. This does not fix some compatibility with later games, but will maintain original timings for the speech in games like Auf Weidersehen Monty.
2) Coming Soon Another fixed GAL which contends bank 4, 5, 6 and 7 instead. This provides higher compatibility with later games, but will adversely affect the speech in Auf Weidersehen Monty.

Basically, if you really like the speech in Auf Weidersehen Monty, go for Option 1 - otherwise Option 2.

Naturally we are more than happy to answer any questions - just use the "Contact Form" on the left.

Please note you will need to replace the original HAL which may not be socketed. Also you will need to attach a wire from pin 11 of the GAL to pin 28 of the CPU.

Not confident with soldering? Use our refurbishment service and we'll do this and all the other recommended fixes for a toastrack, including balanced AY/Beeper sound, video signal improvements for SCART and anything else that may be necessary to get your Spectrum as good as - or better than - new!
